It is our intent on this page to show a few specifics on our water garden construction so potential clients can get an idea of the construction process and rest assured they'll have a well built addition to their yard for many years to come.
The first step is to paint an outline of the pond perimeter. This one had a small 150 gallon plastic pond existing.

After we had put the fish into holding tanks we started excavation. A low spot in the yard was handy to spoil the extra material.

After tamping the soil the next step was to set a concrete footer for the waterfalls base and perimeter block
Block is set as a perimeter and waterfalls base. Different ponds and pond sizes have basically the same construction.

Next we set the liner. I only use Firestone 45 mil EPDM Pond liner. Before placing any mortar or stone we fill the pond to fully stretch the liner and drain it back down below the grade of the lowest stone we plan to set. In the picture on the left we are setting a concrete base for the perimeter stone. They will get foot traffic and must be supported.

Below; larger ponds receive the same on a larger scale.

Here we are setting the waterfalls stone that is below water grade.
After the falls are topped out we set the perimeter and patio stone in a mortar base on our concrete .

Next a good cleaning is followed by setting the submersible pump in a bio filter as seen in the bottom of the picture. A couple of rocks will dress out the top of the filter and I like to place a water lily or two close by so it's not seen at all when the pond is finished.

For this larger pond we custom built a 200 gallon bio filter with a removable skimmer basket under the deck.

We typically stock the ponds we build as the last step. Many clients choose to landscape the perimeter themselves but we are glad to price that. When we leave your yard it's clean with a fully stocked operational pond that's built to last many many years.
